Chapter 6
Growing Up.

---

1:15 in the morning. Was the time my watch read as we drove to Jake's place, me and Jake in the front, Alex and Lizzie in the back. Everyone had drunk a good amount of alcohol after we finished up with the pictures. But I proved to be the only one sober enough to drive by doing a perfect double flip over one of the couches. But Jake insisted on back seat driving, I only payed attention to the directions he gave to his house.

As it turned out Gorge and Tina lived together on the floor above the one we were on in a small condo together four blocks away. Alex and Lizzie both went to a university together, but the campus didn't allow intoxicated students on the property, so they couldn't go to their dorm until it was out of their system. And there was no way in hell I was taking these people any where near my home. Jake said that his house was big enough so that all three of us could all sleep there, so that's where we're headed. I was grateful for no rain.

When we got his house my eyes went wide, the thing was massive. And it was a fucking beach house! The entire thing was painted white and light grays, it looked like a very large cabin, with a early 90's look to it. When I parked the car on the gravel driveway I asked if he wanted it in the garage, he said he would do it when he was more sober, the way his words slurred I think he won't be able to until the same time tomorrow. When we got out Alex held up Lizzie, together they only swayed slightly as they made their way up the porch. I on the other hand had to take all of Jake's weight and my bag to get him to the front door. Good thing I have more strength than the strongest man in the world. Came with the demonic soul.

It took him awhile to figure out that I still had his keys, and moved far enough from the door to unlock it. The moment I opened the door everyone rushed in, I took one step inside then stopped. The room was lush and designed to the shape of the room. It was designed with cool colours, but still felt warm, I could tell the furniture was old, but had been recently finished. A nice cabin feeling, but made you feel at home.

"Where's the phone?" I asked. Jake had went and passed out on the couch, Alex had went upstairs, I assume that's where the rooms are. Lizzie was half way up, she turned and looked confused.

"Don't you have a cell phone?" I shook my head. "Then we're getting you one tomorrow. There's a phone in the kitchen. Night." I called goodnight as I walked into the kitchen.

The kitchen was as modern as you could get, everything was stainless steel and different shades of white and brown. The counters were a sandy marble. The cabinets a solid wood. Even the handles on the drawers were carved with this delicate symbols. It took a moment before I finally found the phone sitting on it's own little table. I picked up the phone and dialed the number, it wasn't even through the first ring when it was pick-up. Strange, no matter what our house it alway rang three times.

"Wrath!" Greed shouted at me through the phone, I had to hold it half a foot from my ear so I wouldn't lose hearing. "Sister! Wrath! I don't know, please tell me that's you!" Why the fuck was he shouting?

"Yes brother, it's me." In the background I could hear all of my other brother's voices, even Sloth and Envy. Were they worried about me, were they actually concerned? Sure this the first night in years I spent it away from the rest of them, but it's not like they don't go out without a word. At least I'm calling them, they don't even do that. I sighed, I have to remember to use their first names in case one of the humans enters the room.

"Alright where are you, I'm coming to pick you up." I don't know why, but in my mind I could see him grabbing his jacket and keys, getting ready to leave.

"No, Wade it's alright, I'm at a friends." For a moment everyone was shouting, then I heard Greed repeat the last thing I said, then everything went quiet, I thought the line went dead for a moment. Then I heard a voice I knew, was surprised to hear no accent.

"Hey Wrath. Are you spending the night there?" It was odd to hear Lust so... Brotherly lately.

"Yeah Skyler. We were drinking. I was most sober so I got to drive, but I wasn't allowed any longer then 15 minutes. So we just drove to the closest place. I'm just going to sleep here, I'll call when I want to be picked up."

"Alright, night."

"Night." The phone hung up, I hung up Jake's phone. Then just stared at it. I haven't taken my shoes off, or set my bag down. The day was still such a surprise to me. After a good four hours of photos we all ended up just sitting around, drinking and telling stories.

Lizzie showed me a video of them all cliff diving, Jake landed on his stomach on a lower cliff. I had never laughed so hard in all my lives. They ended up seeing my scar when I had scratched at my face, I told them I was attacked by a crazed priest. It was most of the truth. When I told them the 24 year difference between me and Pride they were out standard. And I said none of us had the same mother, but had the same father. Which was true. Our human mothers are different, and we were created by god to teach his children a lesson. I ended up telling them a lot, and a great deal was fully honest. I like having friends. But I'm still scared I'm going to lose them.

"What are you still doing up?" When I turned Jake was standing there, he was leaning against the door frame. He looked more sober, but he swayed when he attempted to stand up straight, catching the frame for support. He adjusted his glasses even though they weren't crooked, must be a habit. When he spoke I could still hear the alcohol in his voice. "Aren't you going to bed?" Even in his state I could see that it was just curiosity.

"I'm not sure, I might just stay up and watch TV." In reality I was exhausted, and the vodka only made me more sleepy. But without Sloth I wasn't going to sleep a wink tonight. He yawned, obnoxiously, he rubbed his eyes.

"I'll stay up with you." I looked at him with questioning eyes, magically he pick-up on my look. "I normally fall asleep with the TV on, there's a timer on all of them, you need a password." I rolled my eyes, then nodded. He walked off to probably the living room, I followed behind and was confirmed.

The room was decorated like a forest. Nearly black wood paneling on the floors, grass painted trim, and the walls were hand painted to make the room look like is was a clearing. Sandy rugs looked like sand patches. The furniture were all greens and browns, keeping the nature feel. A 72 inch flatscreen was hanged up on the wall, the only thing in the room that didn't match the forest. All the furniture was worked around the TV, this I found funny. Jake sat down on the couch at one end, leaving me to sit wherever I wanted. I pulled off my boots, then dropped my things on a random chair. I sat on the opposite end. The marble green couch was made of a firm leather, but sunk enough for me to be comfortable. It was much nicer than Sloth's lumpy bed.

"TV, on." Jake commanded in a bored tone. My eyes widened when the TV turned itself on. "Discovery." The TV then flicked onto the Discovery channel, it was shark week, I like sharks. I was impressed, this guy lived well for being 22, I learned that earlier today. I looked at him, he looked at me puzzled. "What?" He asked me.

"How the fuck do you afford all of this? The car, the house, the god damnit TV that turns on its fucking self? Are your parents like loaded or something?" Jake let out a loud and long yawn, his eyes didn't break from the screen.

"My dad bought and sold stocks, made tens of millions. One day he let me go to work and I made him twenty thousand. Turns out I have a knack for it. He told me to come in for an entire month and I would get ten percent of everything I made him. I went in for three months, and made one and a half million dollars, for myself. So I bought this house when it was falling apart for only 285 thousand, I spent another 90 thousand turning it into this. I used a lot of recycled stuff, so I bought the car with the money I saved. I'm one of the few people my age without any debt. Now I'm in university, with the aim of opening my own photography business." Fuck.

"Your daddy is the one of the CEOs of Mcdonalds, so he bought everything for you. Including your fancy university. But you still want your own photography business." He look surprised. "You're a shit liar." Tina told me what his dad did for a living, and that his mom was just a trophy wife. He got a job to pay for the bills, he works at Starbucks. Yeah I knew all this, I just wanted to see if his IQ dropped any more thanks to his seven bottles of beer. He just continued to stare at me amazed, I just pulled my jacket tighter. Finally he looked back at the screen.

There was a documentary on people who were attacked by sharks, and some reasons they were discussing why they would attack people. They interviewed many survivors, most had a missing limb. They brought up many facts, like how their numbers were dwindling because of hunting and crap that was all on the humans. Sharks were a very aggressive species. The pups would eat each other in the sharks womb. The pups would have to swim the moment they were born or their mother would eat them. They went crazy from the smell blood. I wish I was a shark sometimes. Hunting the waters until I found my pray, then kill it with just one snap of my huge jaws. All nerves and instinct. No god damn emotions to deal with. It would be fantastic. I looked over at Jake as the documentary ends.

He's out cold, still sitting up, his head resting on the back of the couch, beer had that effect on men. I check my watch. 2:59. When I look back up the TV shuts off. Fucktard didn't even give me the password.

I got up then walk around the main floor. A huge library, a bathroom, a over sized dining room, and a small guest room. I checked out the basement, the entire thing was just a big game room, with a small bathroom, and a small workout room that was never used. Upstairs held an office, two big baths, six bedrooms, two occupied and one that must be Jake's. There were a bunch of other rooms, but they were either for storage, were empty, or I had no fucking clue about their apparent use. This was nothing like our house.

Ours was a third of the size, and originally had only four bedrooms, we had to do a lot of work for the three other bedrooms. And we only had one bathroom. And now with Pride, and Envy, the two handymen, were constantly gone on business trips I had to try to keep the house from falling apart. No one else could really help because they were working. Sloth never did anything but keep me calm, so we never asked for anymore. I do inspections every month of the entire place. The old victorian house was certainly made to last. But it would be nice to redo some of the rooms. If I had the time and the money, if only Greed wasn't so damn selfish.

I looked for a bedroom that wouldn't disturb anyone if I leave the lights on. I found one at the very back of the second floor, I opened it, a smile creeps on my face. The entire fucking room is in red, with a big ass window that faced the water. The best part, there was a big ass lamp that gave off the same amount of light as my nightlights. Without any second thoughts, I crawled into the silk sheets and closed my eyes.

I didn't expect to fall asleep, I would have just been content here until morning, or rather later morning, finally came. But I did end up drifting off into slumber. By myself. For the first time in ten years.
